In Building and Construction, the Project Manager is the lead authority on site. Everything that goes on during the day goes through them, and they are ultimately responsible for key factors such as determining the scope of construction objectives on different timescales, tracking and projecting costs to ensure budgets are respected, assessing worker performance and interfacing with clients and suppliers. Great Project Managers need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a good head for numbers and an analytical mindset in order to succeed in this role.
Labourers are the core of any construction project. Precision skills, attention to detail, and commitment to the task in hand are the characteristics that make great laborers stand out from the pack. While the daily tasks of these professionals can range from assembling scaffolding to digging trenches and handling raw materials, there are ample opportunities for advancement through qualifications in specialised labouring jobs such as welding, driving heavy machinery or operating cranes. A clean bill of health and excellent level of fitness is very important.
Building Surveyors are highly specialised consultants whose main responsibility is to Liase with clients and advise them on the many factors that can affect the cost and/or success of a building project. You will be expected to analyse projects from top to bottom, including but not limited to aspects such as regulations on boundary placement, environmental concerns, insurance recommendations and project feasibility. This role is usually reserved for candidates candidates with a good deal of experience in the industry, along with relevant qualifications.
The Site Supervisor is the person in charge of the progress and safety compliance of construction site operations on a daily basis, reporting directly to the Project Manager. As a Site Supervisor, you can expect to interact often with labourers around the site for daily briefings, training sessions, health and safety compliance and other important operational factors. Site safety is among the biggest responsibilities, and besides the usual academic and vocational qualifications, you’ll be expected to hold up-to-date certifications in first aid, building codes and health and safety requirements
